First Week

My friend Ken has joined me from Ireland and now we are starting to feel like proper New Yorkers. No longer do we stand at pedestrian crossings unsure of when to walk. Yesterday I even felt confident enough to yell 'I'm walkin' over here' at a yellow cab, albeit sotto voce. We have already found an apartment in Brooklyn so as of Monday we are citizens of NYC (even if it's only for seven weeks)
The first week in a new city is often spent getting a feel for one's surroundings and finding and testing the bars in the area. We have certainly achieved the latter of the two but unfortunately we will have to begin at square one when we move in to our new apartment and into uncharted Bar territory.
We chanced upon an Irish bar last night. Before I continue I wish to point out that some Irish people like to board a plane, arrive in a country, disembark said plane and head straight to the nearest Irish bar and use this as their local for the duration of their stay. I am not one of these people. However I wanted to watch a 'Soccer' game and so the Irish bar was my only option. We popped back later on as this was the only bar in the area that we could find that sold pitchers of beer. It happened to be a Karaoke night and as we attempted to match the number of pints consumed with the street number at which the bar was located,I began to feel somewhat patriotic and began to shout ' up Ireland' with every Irish song that was sung. I attempted a song and began it by dedicating it to
my mam back in Ireland and finished with 'God Bless America'. Oh dear.
The next few days will be spent checking out those bars. God forbid we should miss a few. Ireland are playing against Wales on Saturday so I believe we will be testing the Guinness at Midday. Next week the job hunt begins.....

First Post,First Blog !

The first line is always the most important. Or so I have been told. That is probably not the best opening but I guess it's true (being true in your writing is apparently important also). So this is my first blog. To be honest I'm not even sure how they work but I'm sure I'll pick it up as I go along.
So this is the beginning of a year or so on the road for me. I am a 25 year old actor from Ireland. I've decided to hit the road and see if I can make any impression on the acting world on my way. I begin in NYC( The greatest city in the world, where every street corner looks like a movie!). Then I drive from NY to LA (pending pecuniary matters). Fiji is the next stop albeit a short one after which I continue on to Australia with Asia as the final destination.
I hope to develop myself as an actor and writer along the way and perhaps discover a little bit more about myself as a person ( apparently you can only find yourself in places that you've never been before which I never really understood. If anything I thought I'd find myself at home in Woodstown which is where I spent most of my life. On the other hand it makes sense that you could only really find yourself in a place that you can get lost)
Anyhow hopefully I will be able to document a journey of education, fun and discovery and bring a few readers along with me. (Not physically, just through this blog)
